“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1
Shortly after I retired in 1998, I was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera. A condition in which my body was producing too much blood. The treatment for this illness was periodically having my blood drawn in a process called a phlebotomy. This proved to be a good solution for quite some time.
Eventually, my condition progressed to the next phase which is called Myelofibrosis. This is a cancer in the bone marrow affecting the production of my blood cells. More than six years ago I started taking a medication (chemo pill) to slow this process down and now periodically I need to receive blood transfusions. Just the opposite of what I was doing before.
God has been with me on this journey all the way. He has blessed my life with three wonderful children, a super son-in-law and two fantastic daughter-in-laws. Through this blessing I have six beautiful grandchildren and just recently, three precious great grandchildren. All are there for me when I need them to be.
Some days are good, while others are not so good. I have trouble with pain and walking yet God is with me and gets me through each and every day. Through my faith in him, I am able to still do things I enjoy for I know his presence is with me and it gives me strength. I am so blessed and grateful because God is Good!
Dear Heavenly Father: Thank you each and every day for your steadfast love, strength and goodness in my life. Amen.
