WHERE DO YOU FEEL CLOSEST TO GOD? I FEEL CLOSE TO GOD WHEN I PRAY. I also feel close to God when I'm in church, and when I'm in nature. Seeing a beautiful blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds or a pink and orange sunset makes me feel close to God. I feel close to God around animals, and I'm amazed at the variety and complexity of the many animals that God created. Even my pets make me feel close to God with their unconditional love.
It seems easy to feel close to God when things are "good", when we are happy, or see beauty, and feel that "all is right with the world". It seems more difficult for me at other times. During grief, illness, or a difficult circumstance, I struggle with the big question, "Why?" Why did this happen? Why now? I especially felt this way when my mother passed away unexpectedly two years ago. Yet in my distress, I have felt the presence of God with me.
Even when I don't understand my circumstance, and even when I don't get the answer to my persistent question of "Why?" God is with me. In spite of my sadness or at times anger, He never deserts me. In His word, God promises to always be with us. Romans 8:38-39: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." And for that, I am thankful.
Thank you, God, for staying close to us through every circumstance of life and always loving us. Amen.
